Exceptional Children Teaching Assistant - WS/FCS

Full-Time - Winston-Salem

Min. $11.26 per hour

Provides a variety of support task in the special education classes of the WS/FCS system.

Knowledge Skills and abilities to include:  Understanding of the developmental stages of children and special understanding of the needs of exceptional children.  Basic understanding of a variety of disability or handicapping conditions. Interest in these special students and their learning environment and capabilities.  Ability to communicate and work with the age group and disability assigned. Ability to use sound judgement and make correct decisions in working with these students. Willingness to learn first aid, intervention, and physical restraint techniques.

Education and Experience:  HS diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit or otherwise certified under Highly Qualified eligibility criteria as defined within the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to include 6 hours of college credit with three hours in Reading and/or Writing and three hours in Math and/or Technology along with acceptable scores on the Work Keys test including all 3 parts: Reading, Math and Business Writing.

Prefer one or two years of experience working with special needs children as a volunteer, parent, or in a child care environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
